In Memoriam Erzsébet Szőnyi
Erzsébet Szőnyi, Professor at the Ferenc Liszt University of Music in Budapest, Kossuth Prize-winning composer, Artist of the Nation, founding member of the International Kodály Society and the Hungarian Kodály Society, one of the most authentic representatives of the Kodály concept, is remembered in a book commemorating the first anniversary of her death.
The editor of the volume is Klára Natter-Nád Dr. Márkusné.
Erzsébet Szőnyi's presence for almost a century played a decisive role in Hungarian music education and left indelible imprints on the international dissemination of Kodály's principles.
She left us a huge legacy with her unparalleled rich oeuvre. Her departure prompted us to urgently collect as soon as possible what is still alive in the memory of her contemporaries about her, about her work. The volume contains memories of disciples, colleagues, contemporaries.

Selected from 40 years of materials of the News of the Hungarian Kodály Society (Hírek), you can read about concerts and greetings given on round anniversaries from her 70th to her 95th birthday. Thus we can also remember the famous musicians of the turn of the century who were her contemporaries in this fertile century.
The chapter Authors of this Volume publishes the professional biographies of 63 authors. The 368-page book finishes with an alphabetical Index of more than a thousand entries.
The book is especially valuable as it recalls Erzsébet Szőnyi's speeches, original manuscripts, documents preserving her handwriting. The publication is illustrated by a rich series of colorful, archival photos which help to evoke the person and the environment of Erzsébet Szőnyi.
