SCHOLARSHIP COMPETITION

General Information

  • The International Kodály Society offers fee waiver scholarships for current financial members to participate in high quality training courses.
  • These scholarships support members in attending Kodály training programs either online or in-person.
  • Applicants must be financial members of the International Kodály Society for at least 2 years prior to submission of an application.
  • These scholarships do not apply for classes and workshops at the Kodály Institute in Kecskemét.
  • The maximum amount per Scholarship is $1,000.00 USD.
  • Scholarship funds are only to be used to cover tuition. All other expenses are to be borne by the recipient.
  • The specific course of study is selected by the applicant; the course may be offered in any location, internationally or within the applicant’s own country/locale. However, it should be noted that in-person courses are prioritised in awarding scholarships.
  • These Scholarships are non-transferable either to another person or to another course.
  • There is no age restriction for application.
  • Scholarships are offered in two rounds; Applications must be received in the IKS Office no later than November 01 (Round 1) or May 01 (Round 2).
  • All applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application by November 20 (Round 1) or May 20 (Round 2).

Applications

Applicants must:

  • Be financial members of the International Kodály Society for at least 2 years prior to submitting the application.
  • Be recommended by a qualified person who is currently teaching or working closely with the applicant and who is in a position to verify the applicant’s suitability.
  • Submit their application within the given timeframes.
  • If the application is successful, the IKS will inform both the applicant and the responsible organizer of the chosen course and confirm that the tuition fee for the scholarship awardee will be paid by the IKS.
  • After completing the course, the scholarship recipient is required to submit a one-page report to the Board of the IKS, no later than one month after the completion of the course.

Selection Criteria

The following criteria will be important in the selection procedure:

  • musicianship level
  • personal statement
  • perceived benefits of participation in the chosen course

To ensure due diligence, the IKS Board of Directors reserves the right to ask for additional information about the course, the applicant and/or to organize a personal interview.
These scholarships are offered on a competitive basis and there is no guarantee of successful outcomes. Decisions made by the Board are final and no correspondence will be entered into. All applicants will receive written information about the outcome of the application as per the timeline outlined above.

Application Procedure Steps

  • Ensure that membership status of the IKS is in good standing as per the General Information (above).
  • Identify a Kodály course relevant to your interest/need/expertise
  • Download and fill in the application form
  • Send the application form to the IKS office by e-mail, no later than November 01 (Round 1) or May 01 (Round 2), and make sure that your (completed and downloaded) recommendation also reaches the office by that time.
