IKFA Award Presentation 2015

Committee: Mary Place – Chairman (UK), Helga Dietrich (Hun), Judy Johnson (Aus),
Betsy McLaughlin-Moll (USA), Mary Stouffer (CAN)
Under the auspices of the International Kodály Society

Following the receipt of a number of high calibre nominations, the Award Committee decided that the 2015 Award would be presented to Sr. Lorna Zemke from the USA and Dr Ilona Gróh Gállné from Hungary.

The Presentation to Sr. Lorna look place on 28th June at Silver Lake College in the USA. The Award was presented by Gilbert De Greeve, and Betsy Moll from the USA, Mary Stouffer from Canada and myself were present.

The Atrium was packed with family, friends and staff. I informed those present about the history, aim and objectives of the Award, and they were then reminded of Sr. Lorna’s life time achievements by Betsy, Mary Stouffer and Gilbert.

The Presentation to Dr Ilona Gróh Gállné took place on 5th August at Merchiston Castle School, Edinburgh, Scotland during the International Kodály Symposium.

The Award was presented by Gilbert De Greeve, and it was an honour that Katalin Forrai’s daughter Kati Vikár was present with us. Judith Johnson from Australia and I were the Award Committee members there. It was lovely that one of the successful nominees who received the Award in 2013, Christiane Pineau, was in the audience for the Presentation.

I again presented the history and background of the Award, and Judy and Gilbert then spoke about Ili’s achievements.

Both Presentations provided memorable occasions for the outstanding work of the two recipients and their commitment to furthering the legacy of Zoltán Kodály and Katalin Forrai to be recognized.
