We are deeply saddened to hear the news of Denise Gagne’s passing. Denise was a board member of the Kodály Society of Canada in the early 2000’s, and received a postgraduate diploma in fine arts from the University of Calgary, where she completed her Kodály Certification with Lois Choksy. She was a steadfast supporter of the Kodály philosophy and the KSC, which was clearly evident in her materials and workshops. Denise’s commitment for music education has changed the landscape of school music throughout Canada and beyond.

Denise Gagne was a music specialist with more than 40 years of experience teaching band, choir and classroom music from preschool to college levels. Denise was the author or editor of more than 100 publications for K- 6 music teachers, including the Musicplay and Musicplayonline curriculum. She was a workshop presenter in every Canadian province and territory and all 50 states. She presented regularly for Kodály and Orff workshops and preschool and kindergarten conferences in Canada, the USA, Asia and Australia. She is survived by her husband, 3 children, and 6 grandchildren.

A donation has been made to the memorial foundation dedicated to preserving Denise's legacy in music education. To make a similar donation, go to  http://the-foundation.musicplay.ca
